About

I was born and grew up in Hong Kong before I came to the US for college. I was a career software engineer specializing in enterprise systems. In 2003, I picked up photography as a hobby when I signed up for beginning black and white at College of San Mateo in California. It is truly a magical moment when an image gradually appears on paper in the developer tray. Photography, black and white in particular, soon became my passion.

In the next 19 years, I would have gone completely digital. However, starting in Fall 2022, I rekindled my love for black and white film, and I now have a hybrid workflow (capture on film, print digitally). By the way, almost all my digital photos are captured via my phone nowadays.

I am mainly interested in landscapes and still life. A friend of mine, upon looking at my photos, once told me that they reminded him of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks. My photos invoke a certain kind of nostalgia. It is by no means about sadness or sorrows. Rather, it’s like recalling one’s first love, or recollecting an episode that was a significant part of one’s life.
